Zainab and Raheem’s Muslim Indian wedding was a bright and beautiful three-day affair over an unseasonably warm few days in May in Edmonton. We were even graced with the biggest of blue skies as a backdrop to the rituals and details—from the traditional Mehndi, Mandvo and Pitha ceremonies to intricate henna work and gorgeous, elegant saris—that marked the coming together of these two and their families. Being an Edmonton East Indian wedding photographer, you get to experience the richness of culture and I was in awe at every turn.
This wasn’t my first time photographing them. Raheem had hired me to shoot their proposal; he had made Zainab a book that went through their entire relationship together. I was hooked on these two—how sweet and thoughtful!
And so, it was extra special to witness this next important chapter in their love story. I sensed the same nervous excitement during their first look on their wedding day, among a cove of delicate apple blossoms with Zainab looking stunning in her langa, as I had during their hazy dusk engagement session. And it’s those kinds of butterflies that remind you that this is the real deal. This is love.
