A legacy doesn’t come with a road map. It wouldn’t be how someone might choose it to be–starting with an awkward coffee date, turned slightly less awkward. The girl kept thinking, “I need one more date with this guy-there something about him I’ve never seen before and…I still haven’t met that dog with those ears.” After all its that dog with those ears who got her there with this man in the first place.
On the other side of that inosculated branch, healed from heartbreak is what finally brought him here to this place to meet her. That dog with those ears got him through some darkness and now here in this new light was a coffee date with a girl with a great laugh and a larger than life smile. So maybe that’s not how we plan a legacy but that’s indeed how this one started.
Rachel and Aaron met because Aaron had Harley in his profile photo of an online dating site. The photo caught Rachel’s attention in the slew of men’s faces because–lets face it–Harley was a stunner. Later to meet him in real life Rachel fell just as much in love with that dog as she did Aaron.
It doesn’t matter where the two trees began, they connected and over time, entwined and have built so many more branches over the years. Their roots grow deeper with every passing friend and family member that they touch.
Over the years Harley’s delicate prance and slightly grumpy but gentle old man tendencies is how he won his way into everyones hearts. And of course, those ears. Saying good-bye to a family member is hard. The gaping hole left in your heart isn’t made easier because he was a dog.
