A few of my most favourite things on the planet are running my hand across a fresh new notebook, folding the towels in the proper way before layering them perfectly in the linen closet and of course driving to the airport on the way to a new adventure. The latter didn’t happen this year but more on that later. These things all signify fresh new adventures – all but the towels, which just gives me the silent satisfaction that Oprah would be proud of my closets. With new adventures come hick-ups and frankly the lumps create the best stories anyway.

Last month Matt ruptured his bicep tendon, all the while we are renovating our new house. reason we didn’t leave Canadian soil in 2011. While I waited for him to go into surgery I had my first thought of what life might be without him. It’s in those precious moments when your best friend is hurt that you realize what life might be like without them. Then you watch a nurse write “other side” on the arm they aren’t operating on and it all comes back into perspective. You are rolling in laughter at the high-tech precautionary measures hospitals take to make sure they don’t mess things up when you are on your back unconscious on an operating table.

We are almost done the house, my one armed man is a fool with a sledge hammer, a mean electrician and a peerless talent behind a paint sprayer, while I’ve been almost electrocuted once, probably inhaled asbestos and avoided stepping on a nail by a hair. We are quite the team. We are packing the boxes, sloughing the excess and starting new – in this new year, in our new space. I can hardly wait for our next adventure.

Thank you for finding our work. We'd love to chat if it resinates with you!

We love connecting over coffees or fizzy water or beers!

It’s a little scary, actually, to see that tiny act of writing is the thing that prevents a mistake of epic proportion.

Also, I am so, so with you—Well-folded towels are a must. I don’t let Scott do any folding. Just doesn’t hold up to my standards. Which is funny, since I don’t give much of a crap about the messiness an various other areas. But items folded properly and dishes ordered in the dishwasher correctly? MUSTS.

OK…I GOTTA SAY,”THOSE ARE GREAT LOOKING JAMMIES, MATT”! I HAVE TO GET SOME FOR SITTING AROUND THE CAMPFIRE WITH.

I’VE HEARD THAT RENOS OFTEN COST AN ARM AND A LEG…SO I GUESS YOU’RE GETTING AWAY WITHOUT THE LEG ???
