Willow Lane Barn Olds Alberta wedding
The group moves quickly off the grass and closer to the barn, the water pelting the paper program cards people are holding above their heads. The prairie sky is angry and ugly and dark. They huddle around the large door, facing out, the wind picks up and the ones left in the front shuffle back–avoiding wet shoes. Cheers’ing Pimms inside, still lots of hugs and greetings and lots of talk that it will pass. We all believe it will pass–so we wait. Waiting patiently and steadfast, Kallin didn’t budge — we’re doing this outside. A more truer and stronger man he could not be, and he was right. Rain continued but the sun started pouring in, and the sky started to open. Steam rising over the Willow Lane Barn people started busily drying off the benches and the guests began trickling back out to the ceremony space. Just as quickly as it started, the rain shut off and the sun took over. We were back on. I couldn’t help but think, while Caitlin walked down the aisle that this was a parallel to the last month these two have had. Being evacuated from Fort McMurray just over a month from their wedding day, they waited patiently until the sun shone again, all the while holding tight to the belief that it was all going to be ok. And it surely was.
So dear to my heart, these two, this community and this day is one for the books. Caitlin & Kallin, thank you for your full trust and your big gigantic hearts.
